Mindfulness & Stress Reduction. I began my mindfulness training in 1992 as a martial artist and never looked back, maintaining a consistent meditation, breathing and movement practice since that time. In 2007 I added a 500 hour Yoga Certification, followed by a certification in Yoga of the Heart Yoga therapy, which focuses on the skillful use of relaxation and visualization techniques to heal heart disease, cancer, and other stress-related illnesses.
Entrepreneurship. In 2009 I left my university teaching career to open a Yoga studio, which I developed over the course of 5+ years from a mere concept through start-up to over 6 figures, then doubling that, managing a team of instructors, formulating & co-teaching a highly-acclaimed teacher training program along the way, and diving deep into every area of business, from marketing and promoting, to accounting and spreadsheets. Naturally, I also learned to delegate. Eventually. (:>) In 2014 I “UpLeveled” my business expertise, joining the Gold Mastermind program offered by Christine Kane, “mentor to women who are changing the world,” and working one-on-one for a full year with her professional strategy and mindset coaches. Serious. Growth.
Leadership. Starting in 2012, I began studying with internationally-recognized Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) Expert Linda Kohanov. In 2014, I sold my beloved Yoga studio to move to Arizona, where I could study in further depth with Linda at Eponaquest, and eventually assist her with her leadership and personal development EFL workshops. In 2015 I became an Eponaquest EFL instructor, co-teaching corporate leadership workshops and continuing to work with private clients, professional groups and teams in their leadership training. In 2017, I became an Advanced Instructor, mentoring new instructors in the art and science of EFL. I am featured in Linda’s most recent best-selling book on socially intelligent leadership, The Five Roles of a Master Herder, under the heading, “An Empowered Life.”
Most importantly: the form of leadership I value, practice, and teach is all based on quiet, thoughtful forms of power – non-predatory, non-violent, and consistent with mindfulness work. The world needs more thoughtful leaders who can stay present and calm in the midst of controversy. You probably don’t think of yourself as a leader, and that’s the perfect place to start. You might just surprise yourself – I know I did.
Parenting. I am a mom with two young, highly-creative, vibrantly sensitive and intelligent Indigo children. Give me a corporate group or an unruly horse to manage any day! These little ones really keep me on my toes. I have parented through divorce, legal conflict, and health scares. I have studied Emotion Coaching for children, and taught an EFL program called “Empower your Parenting through the Way of the Horse,” building on the Emotional Intelligence and Leadership components of EFL to benefit parents in improving their relationship with their children. You can read praise for this program from clients who attended it by clicking here.
Life of Joy. My path hasn’t always been cupcakes and roses. But in the face of every challenge I find myself grateful for all that I have learned. The reason I have so many tools for mindfulness, stress-release, resilience, encouragement, inspiration, determination, self- discipline, and – an essential favorite – hopefulness for a brighter tomorrow – is because I have needed them all. Every single thing I teach is something I have learned and leaned on in the school of life. I’ve tested it all in the fire of experience and found it true and good. It’s an honor and a privilege to share these tools to help others along the way.
